 Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
Psychotherapy and counselling sessions last one hour, and
cost £42. Usually I suggest six initial weekly sessions.
That may be enough, but it will also give us an opportunity
to work together and make a decision about any further
sessions.
Do you offer an introductory session?
If you are interested, I will arrange an introductory
meeting for us to talk through the possibility of working
together. It will last about 30-45 minutes, and there is no
charge.
How long will it last?
That depends on your own needs, and on how far down a
path of personal awareness you wish to go. We can discuss
how the therapy is going and decide when it is time to stop.
How do I know who to choose?
I usually suggest that you see two or three
psychotherapists or counsellors before you make a decision.
This is an important choice – you will want to find somebody
who you feel comfortable enough with, and this depends more
on the person than on the kind of therapy they practice.
Like many psychotherapists, I offer a free introductory
session of about 30-45 minutes so that we can both decide
whether it is right for us to work together. I also have a
psychotherapy agreement which I will give you when you first
visit.
When will sessions be?
I mostly have space in the daytime, and try to arrange a
regular weekly time for your sessions. I have a few evening
and early morning spaces. I work from Monday to Friday.
Are you qualified?
I have undergone Post-Graduate training in Core Process
Psychotherapy, with regular updating of my skills and many
years of experience. I am in supervision myself, and am
registered with the United Kingdom Council for
Psychotherapy.
What if I am not happy with the service you provide?
First, I hope you will talk to me about any concerns you
have. If you continue to be unhappy, of course you can
discontinue psychotherapy, and/or you can contact my
training organization, the Karuna Institute. I work to a
code of professional ethics, which you are welcome to see at
any time.
Do you charge for missed sessions?
If you cancel a session within 48 hours, you will need to
pay the full rate. Earlier cancellations are not charged
for.
Are your premises accessible for people with
disabilities?
There is one step into the building. Toilet facilities
are on the first floor.
Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. What you say will not be repeated anywhere else,
except for two instances. For the benefit of people who work
with me I have regular supervision, but people are not
identified by name. If I thought that you or anybody else
was at risk I would discuss with you the possibility of
finding additional help. I would only consider breaking
confidentiality if this was unsuccessful for some reason.
This is for your well-being and the well-being of others.
What if I'm not happy?
Please contact my registering organisation, The Sherwood Institute, whose website can be found at www.spti.net.
